Early in October, Kay and I left Fayetteville, drove through Mycenae, Chittenango and Canastota and headed for the Adirondack Mountains. Our towns have unique names. Along the way we passed through Poland and Ohio and were in the midst of the glory of fall. As we are approaching our northern season of desolation, it is the memories of the beauty of our fall color that helps one keep sane when the major colors outside are shades of black and white. In fact, just the following week it was either migrating geese molting overhead or that other white stuff that was drifting down. We had our first killing frost which was then followed by a wonderful Indian Summer. Note: All images are thumbnails. Click on them to see larger copies. Being within shouting distance of the Adirondack Mountains is one of the pleasures of living in this part of New York State, another is being right up against Green Lakes State Park. The latter does have a shortcoming, the proliferation of nearby, foraging deer. They do not stay within the park. There are times when I wish semi-tame mountain lions were an option. This past summer we brought all the kids and grandkids together from all over the country for a family reunion at Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. Had a wonderful time. The north country fall color on that early October trip was at its height. Keep your outdoor gardens with the Bougainvillea, Bird of Paradise and all the sensitive plants that do not survive freezing weather. We have Fall! Yes, I will soon change my tune. The yellows, golds and reds will all too soon be gone. However, just now we are surrounded with all the glorious colors that are the last gasp of our growing season The other day Kay and I took a ride for many miles away from our house to view the fall. As we have often done on similar trips, we both had to laugh as we were still several miles from returning home. The color around and within a few miles of our house was the
