The table can accommodate 16 to 18 plant trays, with each tray holding from 28 to 72 pots or compartments. Heating and Cooling the Plant Trays Attach a metal shelf to one end of the "greenhouse". Place a heating cable under it and an insulating board sandwiching it in. The thermostat may be seen sticking out from the line of plastic germinating containers. These have nine compartments each and a translucent plastic cover with small air holes. Encasing the entire unit in plastic to keep the humidity high becomes too messy and inconvenient. When the newly germinated seedlings are removed from bottom heat and transferred to the main table, lower a lamp as close as possible. It is then necessary to turn on a small fan to keep the seedlings cool for good growth.
