Fall Again

years and have provided many of my friends with samples. The Lantana, Heuchera "Molly Bush" and the Asparagus fern will also be brought in for safekeeping.

We have now had our first killing frost. I neglected to bring in a dwarf banana plant as there already was its twin growing indoors and two seemed about one too many. They may be dwarf but it is only relative.

I collected seeds from Redbud and Golden Rain Trees. According to a site I found on the Net, they should be treated either with sulfuric acid or boiled for a minute before heading for the refrigerator. Not having any sulfuric acid , I boiled them with much trepidation and will await the results when I bring them out in a couple of months. I will be astonished if they actually do germinate.

The fluorescence of the Miscanthus sinensus Silberfeder is waving in the breeze. These grasses are usually still standing by springtime unless we have had a large, heavy snowfall during the winter. Come spring it takes a hedge clipper cut them down to allow new growth to prosper.

Yet to come are the fall chores, from composting fallen leaves and all the annuals. Then comes a winter of rest for the flora still outdoors.  Indoors I have numerous plants that require continued care, well worth it as a barrier against the sere winter to come.
