The Game Bomberman Tournament is a combination of the classic Bomberman games we have learned to love, with a weak yet innovative RPG game in it. There are two modes in the game, Battle Arena and Story Mode. The Battle Arena involves you and up to 3 computer opponents to duke it out in various arenas, old-school style. Power-ups, traps and crazy levels, they're all there. Plus, you can hook up 4 GBA systems and fight all-out, without an drawbacks from the single player mode, using only one cartridge. That's where Bomberman Tournament really shines.

Then, there is the story mode. I don't know about previous Bomberman games, but the RPG aspect doesn't really work. Anyway, you play the role of Bomberman and you have to save some other dude (not relevant enough to mention his real name). To do so, you have to get through 6 dungeons and fight some huge bosses. Moreover, the story mode requires you to find as many of these little monsters called Karbons. These Karabon thingies are used for fights against other "trainers", needed to progress in the game. The monsters can level up depending on how many matches you win and the number of certain items you get throughout the game. Also, each Karabon gives Bomberman a special power when equipped, like being able to throw bombs under water. Overall, the fights are really lifeless since it depends on luck, and they are only useful when serving Bomberman with a special ability. Another thing missing in the Story mode is the lack of action. The dungeons were really designed to be played out by a sword-fighting hero such as Link, from the Zelda series. Instead, you get this boring bomber-dude that has to bust through 30 blocks in a room using bombs that take 4 seconds to explode and can take out a maximum of 4 blocks at once. This tends to be very tedious and more enemies should have been placed in each room to make it more challenging and fun.

Graphics Bomberman Tournament has some simple 2D graphics that is typical to the Super Nintendo era. Do not expect any fancy effects or movies. All characters are drawn with the very simplicity that makes them interesting.

Sound The sound in the game is average. Once again, nothing too fancy. Regular background music is constantly playing, while the sounds of the bombs and blown up enemies take effect. Otherwise, there is nothing more worth mentioning.
