Welcome to the second edition of "A tribute to other portable consoles". Here you will find some remaining handheld consoles not mentioned in the first part. There are always more out there, including handhelds gadgets like Palms or Cybikos, but I'm strictly basing these articles on gaming specific devices. Also, there are a few other portable gaming systems I have not mentioned, but that is because they are ancient consoles, well buried in their tombs. Look out for an article in the future which will be based on them.
If you have not read the first part of the tribute, click on the link, you won't be disappointed. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/1056... Game Park 32: This system is currently in development by a very dedicated group of people in Korea. This 32 bit system will prove to be an everlasting Game Boy Advance competitor, offering full computer interface, Internet options and a unique way of game play. What makes this system so unique is that it is run by an operating system within the unit, giving the user multiple options. Although I couldn't get specific info about the operating system when I talked to a representative of the company, he told me that GP32 will be a huge hit. As I understood, you can play GP32 games by purchasing game cartridges, or by downloading listened games from the computer directly into the system for a lower price. Using the computer hookup, GP32 gives you the option of emulating systems, such as Super Nintendo, Genesis, Game Boy Advance and many more. So imagine playing all your favorite Super Nintendo games on the go for free. To add, you can have up to eight players fighting it out in online "rooms". It doesn't use link cables, so it's either wireless, or it hooks up to the computer, not sure on that one. This great feature enables to play your cousin that lives in Australia a game of Pokemon, when you're back home in Toronto. GP32 is equipped with a stylish joystick instead of d-pad, just like the Neo Geo Pocket, and four actions buttons. So far, there are two completely different models of the system available, yet are completely identical in features. Game Park 32 has finished its development stage and is currently in mass production. It should be released in Korea in October, 2001. So the big question is, will it come to North America? The answer is uncertain, yet GP32 staff are "planning" on it, whether they will decide to do it or not is unknown, but it would sure be great!
