Game Boy Advance hardware, now available!

With every good system come good and not so good peripherals or "hardware", to enhance the gamer's experience. Naturally, as all of its predecessors, Game Boy Advance already has a handful of neat little things you can attach to your system to maximize the intensity of sweating, painful, mind-boggling gaming that plagues our society. Here is some information on the latest pieces of hardware that came out for Game Boy Advance and what to expect from them.

Nyko Worm Light: This isn't exactly new to the industry, it was around for Game Boy Color, Neo Geo Pocket and Wonderswan. Basically, the Game Boy Color Worm Light can be popped onto your GBA whenever, wherever, right into the link cable output. It's a good source of light, especially in the dark. However, I'll warn you that the GBA screen is very reflective, and the Worm Light has a very concentrated light source, so it might really disturb you gaming. However, if you don't feel like spending big bucks on something more efficient, just grab your old Worm Light.

Light Boy Advance: Now here's a nice little piece that was released just for the GBA. It's basically a non-concentrated light source that illuminates and magnifies the GBA screen, so don't be worried about reflection. It snaps on top of the Game Boy Advance, right where the cartridge is, and surrounds the entire screen. However, due to the couple of extra millimeters around the screen, the Light Boy casts a small shadow over the playing screen which is not illuminated. It's nothing very noticeable, but it's just there. I'm not positive whether the Light Boy Advance will have an American release, so check import shops for a copy from Japan.

Charge n' Go Advance: This is a neat little piece that recharges the battery pack that's included, by placing the system into a holder. Naturally, the cradle is attached to the wall via an AC adapter, the battery pack replaces the batteries in the GBA and you're ready to go. The package includes two sets of battery packs and a new battery cover. When you're done using the system, simply place it into the cradle, of course aligned so that it charges. No wires or replacing battery packs is needed, so it's very quick and efficient. Look for it on shelves, it's a definite winner.

Face Masks: In this package, you get two new face masks that snap on to your GBA and a carrying strap for the system. The face masks do not only modernize your GBA with a new, keen look, but have enlarged action buttons (A and B only), and a joystick that fits surprisingly well over the d-pad. Although it's not perfect since the response is sometimes a bit off due to the joystick, this thing actually works! I really enhances game play, especially for racing games and it's really cheap. I got the whole set for $8 CDN with tax at my Electronic Boutique. For that price, it's definitely worth a shot.
