This ghost story telling adventure works well on short notice for a couple of reasons. It is only a one shot adventure, so while you can use established characters, it is also easy to quickly write one up. It involves the players even more so in the story telling because each one must tell a ghost story. You can be kind and allow them to read a short story aloud from a book if they are trully stuck, but it is far more fun if they play it straight and either make one up on the spot, or retell one of their favorites from memory.
The Adventure: HOOK! This adventure is a spin off from the old lover's lane escaped from an insane asylum - man with a hook - horror story. The stoy so far: 2 ( 3 or 4 or however many players you have in your party) teenagers went out to Old man Jergenson's place one Halloween night to scare each other with ghost stories at his fishing cabin. Old Man Jergenson had been dead for several years, and his place was falling apart. Just the perfect setting for some ghost story teling. The kids picked up snacks at a local store, and armed with some dry firewood, matches, and plenty of munchies, they headed out to the swamps where the cabin sat. That was the last anyone saw them alive. They were found two days later when their parents became worried. The sheriff said their had ben no marks upon them, the only sign of disturbance were the long gouge marks in the walls, which appeared to have come from a large hook. The story spread immediately, and every story about men with hooks who disembowel young lovers late at night was told and retold. The coroner had nothing better to say. The kiids' hearts had nearly exploded, as if from fright. Their adrenaline levels were abnormally high, and veins had burst in the eye area, leading him to believe someone, or something, had scared them to death. This is where the party comes in. they may be friends or relatives of the dead kids, police investigators, journalists, or merely those busy bodies who always seem to frequent horor stories. They must go back to that cabin, and recreate the events of that night, in an attempt to find out who, or what, killed the kids.
