The turn based system, while not unique, is certainly done a bit differently than others you may have experienced. In most browser based games, every action requires at least one turn to perform. This is an efficient way of handling things, but it does not allow for much in depth development, or complex actions. Shattered Empires allows you to perform many actions in one turn, combining development and orders for a more realistic approach to turn based systems. In Shattered Empires you are encouraged to interact with your fellow gamers, and neighbors, but it is, strictly speaking, not necessary. There is so much to do within your own borders, that you will get a full gaming experience, even if you never once contact another person outside of battle. Shattered Empires has many different actions. Allowing an incredible opportunity to build your empire as a fully recognized place. Develop such areas as research and exploration, or military conquest and diplomacy. And be sure to develop them all, otherwise your whole nation will suffer from neglect. Another feature that separates this game from the rest is that victory at any level is never a sure thing in battle, due to the many different types of soldiers available. Foot soldiers do not stand much of a chance against mechas. The story as told from the game creator's words: It had been many years since The War had ended and still the trappings of civilization lay in ruins. Great cities stood empty, the buildings now rubble from the bombings. All that had been easily scavenged was gone. Canned food was now a myth, the world that made it, nothing but a legend. Anything left behind was buried under tons of concrete and steel. But now, after all these years, new flags are being made. Villages band together in defiance from the bandit tribes that roam the shell scarred surface of the world. New leaders emerge from the throng, promising the return of the legend.
