On the Scene

One of the BH regulars, Lasher, in his first interview, had this to say in response to my questions:

Q. Monarchy seems to attract a wide range of players, from all walks of life. What is its appeal for you?

A. I like the storyline of the Game, especially the feudal times deal. It is very addictive.

Q. What, in your opinion, makes Monarchy different from the dozens of other online games?

A. I'm not really big on other games, but the few I play don't compare. It has a great storyline, and is not overcrowded. I have played others that seemed to have way too many players, and little chance of being successful in their game.

Q. You run a new player help topic. What are some of your most common questions?

A. Most of them are about military and building ratios, but I am not big on these because Decae [Dustin Collis] has said he does not want the game to be about numbers.

Q. How much time do you spend playing Monarchy, on average? A. I spend about five hours during the week and more on weekends.

Q. Is it more important for you to win, or have a good time?

A. It's definitely more important to have a good time. Winning is a great plus, but l play more for fun.

Q. Do you have contact with the other players outside of the game setting?

A. I have had contact with a few of them. Friends that I already knew, my dad would not allow me to meet people offline that I had only met online. [note: Lasher is 16]

Q. What is your favorite part of the game?

A. My favorite part is going to war with your guild. I get so psyched. Your whole guild joins up in an ICQ and strategically takes out the enemy. I love it.

Q. Least favorite?

A. My least favorite part is having to wait for more turns. It would be nice if we got more faster.

Q. If you could change one thing about Monarchy, what would it be?

A. I think it would be nice to make the game faster paced. It's pretty slow with only two turns per hour. Chaos has three, but l would like to see them all have four. Then the game would be much quicker and more lively.

Thank you, Lasher.

I began Monarchy with the hopes of gaining writing material, and I have found so much more. I have no doubt that this will be one of the hot spots for gamers, and a name synonymous with online role-play.
