The Y2K Bug Expected to Produce Worldwide DisruptionsNobody knows how severe will be the disruptions to daily life, in case the work is not finished, but some analysts, like Dr. Edward Yardeni, Chief Economist with Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (a Wall Street firm) warn of 60% chance of global recession by the year 2,000. The "worst case" scenarios predict "snowball" or "domino effects", resulting in shortages of electricity, food, fuel, etc, worldwide. Others believe that inevitable delays in basic services (utilities, banking, airlines, telecommunications, as well as business services) may temporarily appear. These risks prove our degree of dependency on computer technology, with repercussions which can not be always correctly evaluated. Colonizing Mars or flying on private spacecraft to Io, humans still have soul and spiritual priorities. Before informational and material ambitions, we must remember ourselves as we are, born as spiritual entities. If stranded on the Everest, we should still remember how to build an efficient hut with the same self-sufficiency we have done it for the past 100,000 years. That is not only an exciting challenge. It should be a basic skill.
