Everyone marches to their own tune in life. There does exist however a certain frugal "standard" in life that we should adhere to without exception, if for nothing else because anything guilt free is ultimately better than anything guilt ridden.
Obey the laws of your community. GASP, yes your community may have laws about "dumpster diving" or "trash surfing" so before you do either, check with local law enforcement so that you are not in violation of your local ordinances. If there are no trespassing signs posted, they do apply to you! By respecting the property and laws of others, what you do do will most likely be allowed in the future. For example if you take a chair from someone's yard once it has been left out for the trash, I am sure they wouldn't mind. However, if your community charges extra for large item removal they may want to know that you are or will be taking it so they are not billed for a service they did not receive. In addition, if you make a mess moving the chair, clean it up. Sounds like something we might tell our kids, but we all need reminding from time to time. Follow the rules applied to coupons, refunds, rebates, and store specials. If it says one per household, keep it at that. I am not trying to be your conscience, but rather make the point that if people abuse these offers, they will be discontinued. I never advocate bowing to peer pressure or society standards but we need to be great, guilt free frugal examples to our children and the people around us! Being frugal is FUN! It's a challenge to get something for the best possible price and have money left over. It's a good feeling to know that your bills are paid and you can feed your family. When ruin the bliss with those nagging guilt feelings? Until next time, March on and wave that frugal banner proudly! Go To Page: 1
