Little Matters that Matter

I apologize for my absence, I have been sick, had a child suspended from the bus and was left "home alone" with a swimming pool that I know nothing about and confusing direction about what day is actually the day to put the trash out. (Not to mention working and raising my four VERY active children!) Forgive my absence!

I am taking a momentary hiatus from my "typical" topics to share something very important with you.

I am "new" to the neighborhood. I am "new" to this house. My children are in a new school and recently, my husband has been working on the road more and more. We are slowly and at times painfully merging two household into one.

My in-laws went away on vacation and my husband went away on the road. It was important to me that I accomplish everything that would be done if my in-laws were home. I also developed a severe head cold and my son was suspended off the bus for three days. As the old saying goes, when it rains it pours!

Everyone being away meant my children would be home alone for longer than I would like. I was not happy about this, but having to work made this a very unfortunate situation for me. My chldren have made friends with a little girl up the street who also comes from a large family.

Her parents, in my book, deserve at least ten gold stars in the gold star book in the sky! They offered to keep my chldren until I got home from work. I offered to pay them, but they did not accept my offer. Not only did they watch my children, one night they gave me a half of a pan of lasagna to boot! I could have cried on the spot and I will remain forever grateful that they took time out of their lives to see my situation and assist me.

We can get so easily caught up into what is going on around us that we forget that others around us are hurting, not as a result of their actions, but because of how things have happened.

It was happenstance that I was ill, home alone and that everything that could go wrong did. It is rare to have someone step up to the bat and say I WILL HELP YOU! I was and am grateful. Not everyone you may help will be, some will be indiginant that you didn't do more! It's the nature of the beast when it comes to helping. Sometimes you will make a postive difference in someone's life and sometimes you won't. Sometimes you will be appreciated and sometimes you won't.
