Frugal AND Thankful! It's funny how rarely one hears frugal and thankful in the same breath. Thankfulness is the root of frugality because while it is perfectly acceptable to set lofty goals (and I hope you do!), the root of living within one's means is being thankful (but not complacent!) about what one owns. It's all well and good to have two hundred pairs of shoes, but it's better to have two or three pairs and be satisfied and grateful that one has the ability to do so. It is easier to start a day well when one can count one's blessings rather than bemoan what we do not have or wish we had! Do what you love and do it well. If you are in job that you dislike, do it well and be thankful for the opportunity to earn an income, you never know who is watching your performance! I went to Burger King for breakfast a few weeks ago (GASP, yes I indulge when the rumbling of my stomache overtakes the radio!) and the girl in the drive through window was very efficient, polite and pleasant to deal with. Is it her dream job? I doubt it, but it's obvious that she takes pride in what she does. If I were looking for an employee, I would have given her my card. I am not kicking anyone who is currently down. I have been in that dreadful place where Christmas looks bleak, the bills are piling up, one person is laid off and the other has had their hours cut. Those are definitely dark times to which we all are vulnerable. Find what you can be thankful for and take joy in the small pleasures in life. Decide to persist in your well being and you will bit by bit climb whatever mountain is currently in your path and what seems to be the darkest of days, will turn to be one of your best moments in retrospect!
