I work for an Internet based company and spend a great deal of time surfing for retailers and more! I have found some really great ways for you to find great bargains without spending hours looking for them!
This week I visit Kmart online. They do not post their clearance items as a department HOWEVER if you put "clearance" in the search their site box, you get a list of GREAT items at lower than average cost. Some items are a guaranteed steal!!! You can find kmart at: http://www.kmart.com
Walmart does not post clearance items, however, you can browse their less than $10.00 items. They have their items listed by cost.
Mothernature.com is liquidating their stock so prices are low, low, low! You may not be able to purchase everything, but you should be able to find some items at great prices that would be of use as gifts (candles, stocking stuffers etc.)
If you want to purchase a high ticket item at the best price, check out the online shopping service in my links. There are also services that will report sales in your areas at offline locations. I often will enter the exact name of the item in a search engine (I favor http://www.ixquick.com and http://www.mamma.com). Be very specific in what you enter such as the brand name, model type, etc. This will give you results from sites pertaining to exactly that product.
CVS has offers in the Online Specials section that are great savings. If you are going to shop for over the counter meds and other things they carry, remember that you are not paying sales tax, shipping is $3.95 for orders under $35.00 and free for orders over $35.00. If you use something regularly (i.e diabetic supplies) check here often for savings that will add up quickly. The "online drugstore" area of the interest remains very competitive so you should be able to benefit by checking around frequently.
Other words I search by with great success are: discounted, outlets, wholesale, clearance, discontinued, etc. Think of all the things you look for when you shop offline and search by those keywords. You know your buying habits and instincts and you should trust them!
