Easter By a "Super Hero"I am (besides a working mother, wife, and writer) a supreme super hero fighting the hype over “things” for kids. Often times less is more, holidays included. If you were to give a child a choice between the “ultimate” pre-packaged Easter Basket or making Easter Eggs with Mom and Dad, the time spent together would win hands down nine times out of ten. I don’t believe in keeping “basic necessities” from kids, but at the same time I refuse to go into hock so they can have a “nice time." Keeping in mind my super secret identity, here are some ideas to make your Easter affordable and fun for the whole family (Dad included!). To candy or not to candy? Shoot me and say I am no fun, but I could never see the sense in buying a tremendous amount of candy just because it was a holiday. I think it’s okay to say no to candy or yes to some candy. A staple in our house for Easter is the marshmallow peeps. We also buy jelly beans. Sometimes we do the chocolate bunnies or crosses but not every year. A great substitute is to fill the plastic hollow eggs with “goodies” for kids and hide them. In our house, with four kids, we purchase two or three packs of eggs and assign each child one color. You can do this however you like, or
