It’s that time of year again ! If you haven’t started your spring cleaning YET, a sudden and mysterious urge will
soon come over you. You will find yourself reaching for that ponytail holder and rolling up your sleeves while
simultaneously reaching for the nearest cleaning implement. Okay, so that probably won’t happen, but we can hope
that a sudden irresistible urge will come upon us all. I have always enjoyed how my house looked, felt and smelled
after some vigorous cleaning, but I always have had difficulty in working up the “want to”, when faced with not
having the funds or the resources I would have liked to have had to do all the things that I wanted done.
While I have been brutally honest about my lack of motivation to clean, I believe strongly in “Spring Cleaning” for
the simple reason that it restores hope to our lives. If that sounds far stretched , consider the following. Winter
means short days and long night, holidays that require money and traveling (as well as possible family conflicts),
higher utility bills for heating, traveling at best made difficult by snow and the cold and flu season. Springs brings
the snowbirds back to our yards, and flowers begin to grow. It’s warm enough to turn off the heat in some areas.
Life around us begins anew and we are reminded that life is not so difficult all the time. I believe spring follows
winter for a reason, and we ought to embrace the new life around us !
Okay, so you are still not running for your mop, I have listed below several rules of thumb for cleaning that
include, saving time and money on your spring cleaning, how to enjoy your spring cleaning, and some things you
may not have thought about trying.
Cleaning with Friends
If you have one or two close friends, you may want to consider cleaning your houses together one at a time. This is
guilt free time spent with a good friend while cutting each other’s time spent cleaning in half. No fair asking a
friend to do a job you wouldn’t consider (like your four year old’s room )
Make your own Cleaning Products
It sounds a little far fetched, but did you ever stop to think about the products your great-grandmother used to clean
her home? The dirt back then was no less dirty than the dirt of today ! Granted they may not smell as nice as some
of the “top of the line” cleaning products, but they cost considerably less. I have provided links to instructions on
