LOST GARDENS OF THE PAST

Shipman, Beatrix Farrand and others.

Generally the only historical gardens we ever hear about are those of the rich and famous. I came across what remains of an ordinary citizen's garden in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The park was created by buying up all the private property within its boundaries. I visited an old mountain homestead not far from Gatlinburg, Tennessee and saw numerous fruit trees and garden plants. Every spring these heirloom plants bloom.
