The strawberry tree can be propagated by seeds or by half-ripe cuttings taken from summer through the winter.

Related Species and Cultivars

Related species include the Cyprus or Grecian strawberry tree, and the Pacific madrone, found in California and Oregon.

There are numerous fine cultivars. 'Compacta' is small and compact. 'Jack's Elfin King' is slightly larger, 12 feet in height. It blooms for a long period. 'Quercifolia' is noted for its oak-like leaves. These are dark green with purple veins. 'Rubra' features deep, rich pink blooms. This cultivar is slightly less hardy, less vigorous, and smaller than the species.
