Get free reading incentives!

So, summer is looming around the corner and you're thinking whether or not to homeschool? We usually don't do anything formal over the summer, but we do keep up our reading. If you are thinking about a summer reading program that will keep your kids motivated and having fun, try looking at Book Adventure. This is a reading incentive program originally developed by Sylvan Learning Centers. Once your child reads a book, they can rack up points to go towards prizes offered by national vendors. Once you have achieved your certificate they send it to you through postal mail. Here are the prizes listed currently.

You and your kids can create your own book lists from over 5,000 recommended titles and then take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read offline. They also have a top ten list of the most popular books kids are choosing to quiz over. We first went through all of the lists and picked out the books we'd read already and took the quizzes to pile up points. There is a prize approval page where you would be able to approve or deny the request on this page. You can also check your child's reading progress on the "Reports" page.

Once you register your child, put in a grade at the Bookfinder section and click a few interest boxes and they will come up with a list of books. The parent's section of the site is rich with resources for working with kids with a link to homeschooling that lists more links to popular homeschooling sites.

The site offers links to online games, badges the kids can achieve and a tool section with almanacs and dictionaries.

This is a great free resource to enhance your curriculum that can used for summer reading or reading throughout the entire year. O.k., so start thinking about that summer reading, but now you have one more reason to get your kids going! (Try not to get that pool water on those library books!)

Here are some freebies this week from The Homeschool Hotline.
