Create Your Own Homeschool Classroom Online

A while back I was looking for a way to create flashcards or a matching game to help my son learn the names of the bones. Set apart from the singing the neckbone connects to the.... and all that I found a great site called Quia.com that I could make a matching game out of. My son loved playing it and he had the bone knowledge down in a short time. From there we took our favorite book and made a contest out of it using trivia questions. My husband even did that one (and didn't do as well as the rest of us true scholars). What is really great about Quia is there are also games that other educators have made up for their classes or children. The games go all the way up to college level, so if you have a high school student looking for a challenge I think you could keep him or her pretty busy over at Quia. There are categories like languages, trigonometry, astronomy, biology, chemistry, states and capitals, music, history, color theory and many others. We went through the multiplication facts review and found we could review numbers 1-100 using flashcards, matching, or concentration to work on drilling those numbers.

Here are some ideas for implementing Quia into your homeschool program. First go in and create a username and password. Don't forget to write this down somewhere. From here you will need to create your classroom page. I titled ours "Higginbotham Homeschool". After you create your page you can input links and study games. Before you create a new study aide make sure someone else hasn't already done it for you by checking the directory of categories. Use a list of definitions, story elements, math problems and answers, states and capitals, phonics lessons, science or history facts and input them into Quia. Once you have made your game you can choose to put it into the Quia directory or just keep it for your kids. You can also email your game to anyone you would like. Perhaps another homeschooling family you know is covering the same material or will in the future? Email them your game!

Quia.com is a simple system to create or find all kinds of games to help kids learn and best of all.... It's free for all of us Frugal Homeschoolers!
