Free Christmas Literature to Read With Your Kids

© Teresa Higginbotham

My kids and I were just at the mall searching for Christmas presents. Now I don't normally shop over there, but I promised we would visit Santa and that was the only throne he was sitting on around here. We went over and I was amazed at the many high-priced Christmas books there were for children in the book store. Wow, what a racket! You know the Frugal Homeschooler would have to find a way to do it cheaper.

At the writing of this article we are ten days before Christmas. Whether you are still homeschooling or have stopped for a Christmas break, here are ten stories to share with your kids until that final Christmas day. Reading aloud with your kids is a sure-fire way to get them interested in reading and a way to spend some special time with them discussing holiday traditions and lessons. As you read through each story, play or interactive website think about other ways your kids might extend the lesson. If you use a play, how about performing it Christmas Eve for the relatives? If you find an interactive Christmas story why not dig it up Christmas day when the cousins are over and the toys just fell apart? If you are reading a classic tale or the story of the nativity then why not extend it with coloring sheets, Advent devotionals, crafts or prayers? Any way you do this--it is a frugal way to celebrate Christmas!
