Do You Know Where Homeschoolers Get Free Educational Videos?

© Teresa Higginbotham

In the last year my kids have learned about electrical safety, from the Electric Man. They also learned about safety during the holidays with electrical cords. After that we learned a little about aquatic life with Shamu and we saw a film about fighting bacteria that so impacted my five year old she won't even leave bread out on the counter. Where did we get all these great resources? How much did we pay for them? Nothing! Looking through a freebie list a while back I found a service called Video Placement Worldwide (http://www.vpw.com). This is a service that businesses use to promote their educational films. The Electric Man film came from Underwriter Laboraties, the aquatic films came from Busch Gardens. Right now on the website they have films from The American Optometric Association, The Country of Japan and the The Royal Netherlands Embassy to mention a few. These companies or countries are either doing this to spread a message or to promote their business, but I have to tell you the films are not heavy on advertising. They usually just contain a great learning experience. Here are some listings they have presently in October 2000.

Elementary: Dutch Painters of a Golden Age St Nicholas in Holland Operation Decoration With Safety Man Rabies Shamu TV: Wild Babies Share Your Vision The Great Food Fight

Middle School A New Look at Pork Backyard Tips from Chipper Don't Be Blind to Diabetes Gone With the Wash In Good Taste: Careers in Food Science 6-9

High School A Job for the Future: Careers in Measurement and Control A Taste for All Seasons Considering Your Options: Information on Abstinence and Contraceptive Choices for Teenagers In Good Taste: Careers in Food Science 9-12 Japan Video Encyclopedia-Japanese Culture MAPP-Power You Can Count On Master Your Future-2nd Edition (Money Management) Powder Metallurgy

So check this site out and supplement your curriculum for free! After you finish with the films, do you know of another homeschooling family or support group who could pass these films around. I personally have been waiting on That New Look at Pork video (Woo Doggy!)
