Why not enjoy bath time without all the cost? You can make your own bath products very frugally and simply and save yourself a lot of money! Bath salts, bubble baths, attractive soaps, deodorant, talc, shampoos and conditioners - all these can be made simply and frugally by anyone!
Attractive Simple Soaps An easy way to make your own specialized soaps is to buy a plain soap like Castille and grate it up and melt it in a double boiler. Add oatmeal, oil perfumes, fresh herbs, rose petals, or any other yummy soap addition. Pour into simple moulds (such as bottom of a milk carton - cut the top 2/3 off, a plastic cup). Just to a normal soap size. Let dry and remove from moulds. (This could take a day or two in the hot water cupboard.) Leftover soap creation I came across this idea in my travels and thought it was quite neat, so am sharing it with you! Collect leftover soap bits. When you have plenty, pop in a bowl in the microwave to soften the soap (about 1 or 2 minutes depending on microwave wattage and how much soap you have). Place the soap on wax paper and shape to your desire. Makes the best soap and is softer to your skin not to mention the pretty colours. (a post from Gloria Thomas) Cream Deodorant I'm about to try this one! Mix together: 1 part petroleum jelly, 1 part cornstarch (cornflour, if you live in New Zealand!), and 1 part baking soda. Add a few drops of a favourite perfume if desired. Store in a small jar. An easy home-made shampoo recipe and conditioners: Check out this link for a soap based shampoo recipe: http://pages.ivillage.com/frugalite/frug... Bubble Bath recipe! 1 cup canola oil ½ cup dishwashing liquid soap - blend well. Add: 5-10 drops essential oil Add ¼ cup of the bubble bath under warm running water Mix the baking soda and cornstarch well. Add the essential oil and mix well again.
Sprinkle all over the body and gently rub in to the skin.
(You could put this mixture in a flour shaker for easy application.) Hair Shine
Stir 1 teaspoon honey into 4 cups (1 quart) warm water.
Blondes may wish to add a squeeze of lemon.
After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Don not rinse out. Dry as normal.
(Much better way to increase hair shine than all those chemical shampoos etc!) Enjoy!
