Frugally Simplify your Bathroom and Laundry!

Our Laundries and Bathrooms can get cluttered, too! So, we need to look at what we can do that is a) frugal and b) de-clutters!

LET'S START WITH THE LAUNDRY!

CLOTHES BASKET Yep, we can put all our dirty clothes in this, and hide everything away till we can work on them! LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT We can place all this in the laundry cupboard or up on a shelf on the wall. A simple shelf can easily be made with a couple of brackets and a piece of wood. Thrift shops are one of the best places to shop (if you ask me!) or Trade Magazines where private sellers advertise to sell their unused gear.

ECONOMICAL LAUNDRY SOAP RECIPE: A link for an economical easy-to-make laundry soap recipe: Grate 115g (4 oz.) of any good soap (I find sunlight soap is fine). Place in a pot, cover with warm water and melt over a gentle heat. Add the white of an egg and 150 ml (1/4 pint) of gin or vodka. Keep tightly covered. Use instead of commercial washing powders. (Try ½ cup per load and increase if needed or for heavily soiled clothes.)

BATHROOM

BATHROOM CABINET If you have one, you can place all your bathroom soaps, toothpaste, shampoos, bath salts etc in here. If it is big enough, and you don't have too many items to store, you can also store your towel and flannels here. A BATHROOM BOOKSHELF Look out for a bookshelf the right size to fit in your bathroom. Look for a good deal of course! A bookshelf in the bathroom is a great place to store towels, hand towels, and flannels! If you roll them it can even look better. If you buy a bookshelf that is a bit rough you can always be industrious and sand and paint it up in a colour to match your bathroom. BATH TOYS For those with littlies. Do our toddlers really need a huge bag of toys for the bath? I've always found my little fella is quite happy with 2 or 3 little toys. When he gets bored with them I'll give one or two away and look out for something else for him to play with. This keeps a lot of clutter out of the way!

BATH SALT RECIPES: These are cheap and easy to make.

450g (1 lb) washing soda, Colouring, Perfume or a few drops of herb oil

Stir well together and add 1 tsp strong tea. Hang in a muslin bag, shaking occasionally until dry enough to bottle.
