Santa Claus is Seen Over the French Quarter!

Well, as you may know, I track hurricanes as a hobby, but did you know you can also track Santa Claus online?

I was chatting with fellow editor Rosemary Basil and she reported that she had seen Santa over the French Quarter last year. Oh really?" I said, not being a disbeliever, mind you, but um..."You said over?" I asked.

"Yes," she continued adamantly. "He flew over Royal Street looking towards the CBD. I even have PROOF, I took a photo." "Hmmm..." I said, thinking she had had one two many nips of the egg nog.

Then when she sent me her pic I just had to laugh! Here it is for your delight...

HO! HO! HO!

She also sent me something she wrote last year when she saw the space shuttle. With her permission I share it here:

"Sunsets in New Orleans always hold a special place in my heart but at Christmastime in this old fashioned Dickens looking village, the French Quarter, you expect to see St. Nick's sleigh and 12 tiny reindeer fly over Bourbon Street. If you had one too many, maybe you do!

Now, tonite was a special night. Rather than something out of the past, we got to see the Space Shuttle! This is the second time I have seen it and I can say it is chilling and thrilling! I always appreciate the juxtapostion of the antebellum brick and iron lace balconied buildings against the backdrop of the slick skyscrapers as you look towards downtown up Royal Street which flows into St. Charles. To see a space shuttle- even if it is a faraway flash of light- you feel like a true time traveller!

Someday perhaps we will all know what life is like on the moon and other planets. I hope we don't just build another shopping mall or theme park. I hope we make it better for our children, grandchildren and theirs. Above all I hope we put an end to starvation, cure all illnesses and create places where inter-gallactic travellers will get together in peace and harmony, a place where the goodwill spirit we herald at Christmastime, is a daily attitude, not a token transitory display." --Rosemary Basil, French Quarter, New Orleans, 2000

Well said in this particular year of crisis...

Now, how about tracking Santa online? Yes, a bit of a departure here, but then again, Rose did see him herel ast year!

Here is a link I found that is a lot of fun for kids and adults alike:

Santa's already back at the North Pole. But this looks like it would have been fun!
