Autumn Sunset

© G. L. Tyrrell

New Orleans in November can be the best time to visit if you are lucky to miss a storm or cold front. It is cooler than summertime and warmer than it will be in a couple months, 70's-80's and sunny, how great is that?
This sunset you see was shot during an early crisp cold front, that got down to 49 degrees F in the Quarter, but with the winds had a windchill of 34. So I caution tourists to come prepared, wear your winter attire but bring some shorts and tees because if you blink, it just may change!

Now I know many of you are afraid to fly or travel for that matter. How about grabbing a train? This is the time to go back in time. Guys, bring your ladies on down for a romantic getaway at an antebellum B&B in the French Quarter, rates are lower now!

Another fun thing to do is to leave the Quarter for a plantation. There are many romantic inns in surrounding parishes and north of the Lake (Lake Pontchartrain). Cajun country is also a very trendy friendly place to get away. Have you ever eaten alligator? Or seen one?

But I hesitate to send you out of the Quarter because, as you know from reading this column, there is much to see and do and frankly, our neighbors need the money! Patronize the arts by checking out the many galleries on Royal Street. Do some Christmas shopping for unique gifts and take a riverboat cruise without breaking a sweat. Dance in the streets and catch some local live music and food. You will be so glad you did. NOW is a great time to visit New Orleans! Enjoy a sunset...

Sunset Romance by Rosemary Basil

The sun does a sensuous dance in the French Quarter sky,
doning a silken costume of flamboyant orange,
to a sexy saxophone riff on the Mississippi
a scorching summer day
a sizzlin hot nitescape
fire and smoke over Bourbon street
tango by twilight, surreal delight
a dance til dawn
