Are you planning a visit to the French Quarter this holiday weekend? What better place to celebrate the 224th year of independence for the U.S. and the 301st year since the founding of New Orleans than with a party in one of the worlds best party spots... The French Quarter!
This weekend you will find the
Essence Music Festival 2000 in town at the
Superdome from the 1st through the 3rd. Music by Luther Vandross, Earth Wind & Fire, Gladys Knight, Bobby "Blue" Band, Little Milton and many, many more. Also on the ajenda, workshops, seminars and even a cruise. The Essence Music Festival is becomeing one of the biggest summer attractions in New Orleans.
Capping the weekend is the annual "Go 4th on the River" celebration with live music, riverboat rides, LOTS of food and, of course, at 9pm fireworks - This year should be a great show with the first appearance of the "Dueling Barges" fireworks show on the river. All this is on July 4th at Woldenberg Park on the Mississippi River.

As you can see it can be very hot (Heat Index can top 110 degrees) so bring your shorts and sunscreen but don't forget the umbrellas or ponchos either as July tends to be quite wet. Thunderstorms in the quarter can strike fast and become heavy downpours with over 2"/hour.
Most of all... Have Fun and enjoy the Fourth of July Celebrations.
Until next week... Doc
