With apologies to Wanda's Themes & Things I just couldn't resist using the title of one of her Halloween Themes for my title this week! It was just too good to miss and, yes, the link will take you to the theme's webpage.
It's that time of year again when "Ghosties and Ghoulies and things that go bump in the night" take over our lives and our pockets! This holiday, which passes almost unnoticed in England (or at least it used to!) rivals Christmas in North America. Our local supermarket is selling costumes right alongside all the, specially packaged, Halloween candy! Fortunately it's quite incredible the amount of free programs, themes, screensavers, sounds, wallpapers and more, that are on the web for Halloween. Living, as we do, in the middle of a forest, we don't have hoards of Witches and Dracula's beating a path to our door. Which is probably just as well. Our 4-legged "kids" wouldn't appreciate them. Nor would they appreciate being dressed up and taken trick-or-treating! The most "dressing up" they'll put up with is being draped in a towel while they wait their turn to be dried when they come in out of the rain. Hmmm... maybe we could persuade them, it often rains on Halloween!! Of course we'd have to find houses to visit that were giving out doggie biscuits and rawhide treats, although they'd happily settle for chips... providing they were the right brand and flavour of course! I swear Muffin just yapped "Doritos!" & Lucky replied "nah! gotta be Kettle chips". Anyway, I digress!! Back to Halloween freeware. Since Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, hopefully I'm not too late with this selection of fun for everyone... Does it seem like all the kids making a beeline for your door are carrying little orange donation boxes? Do you wonder what that's all about as you (reluctantly? isn't candy enough these days?!) drop a coin in the box & hand over a day's supply of "dentist's delight"?!?! It is actually a very worthwhile cause run by UNICEF. Collection boxes are available at many place but you can also download a kit to make your own box and volunteer badge from the UNICEF website.
