Night SchoolHaving been born in London England during WW11 I was the product of a relatively basic post war ten year education program with very little opportunity for further education... I wasn't clever enough anyway. I don't think we would have recognised the word Computer, let alone understand what one was. A great deal of my most valuable education came about from working on the job... "sitting next to Nellie"... we used to call it in those days. I did have the sense as I got older to supplement this learning curve by going back to "school" after a fashion although holding down a full time job meant it had to Night School in the form of a Correspondence Course. After nearly twenty years out of the classroom it was hard work... particularly the exams. at the end. Nothing high tech. at this time in the mid 70's. Lots of pens, paper and snail mail and I don't even remember a telephone call centre. If you're interested in what I came away with after a year's very hard work take a look round the The Institute of Administrative Management I've never regretted the exercise and it has served me well on any number of occasions down the years. Times they are a changing. Distance Learning seems to be the modern terminology and every TV, Print and Internet ad. includes reference to all the computer hardware, software and communication support that is now thrown in... for a price of course. That doesn't mean to say that money always needs to change hands especially when it comes to using the Internet as a source of information, knowledge and learning. Here's the latest example that impressed me the other day. Talk about the right help at the right time. "Tech24.com is the leading aggregator of computer service and support content and fulfilment on the Internet. Can't ask for better than that... where were they twenty five years ago? If you're one of those who can't get enough information and reading material about Spyware then here's another episode in the saga from Cnet.
