Work in Progress

I find myself using this expression quite a lot these days. It tends to apply to my life in general... probably yours as well if you think about it.

It certainly applies to my computer education, and most particularly to upgrading my personal knowledgebase of the Internet. Having made a somewhat wacky reference to my "degrees" in my profile, I get asked from time to time why I have never acquired something computer related while at college or university.

The answer is quite simple... I have been playing catch up ever since the damn things we're invented!

Didn't I learn about them in school? Strictly speaking the earliest versions we're around then, but just one would have pretty much filled the whole building.

Didn't I take computer courses? There weren't any in those days and I wasn't bright enough to make the grade for college etc.... not that there were any such courses there either.

There did come a time when I did go back to school in later life to learn about managing people because at that time computers, even in the workplace and the office, we're still few and far between.

Yes folks, I do go that far back and keeping up with them has indeed been a work in progress ever since.

My computer "education" came about exclusively while working on the job with them and now the same applies with the Internet. Thankfully the opportunities to learn the theory as well as the practice have also increased tremendously and many of these are now online.

Which finally brings me to my point.

"Finally online training within every budget - FREE!

This site currently hosts over 200 full online training courses - Over 35,000 pages of professionally developed, high quality content pages."

This site impresses me both for it's appearance, it's content, and it's organisation. All the material is available in PDF format for which you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader and if you need to install this freebie a download link is provided.

A FAQ page provides a lot of useful information and there is nothing to download unless you need the reader. In fact, as they explain in the FAQ's there is nothing able to be downloaded... everything is accessed online. They make the point :-

"NO, this site is a free ONLINE service to the internet community, we have specifically designed the site to prohibit the complete download of a course for numerous reasons, we must also protect our course developers who have stated that they would prefer it if the courses can be viewed online
