Tree Saving

'Tis the time for reflecting upon old and new technologies.

What ties this thought to my chosen title this week is the chore of administrative reorganisation... or to put it more simply spring cleaning. Well, the alternative is shovelling snow... no contest!

The need for this was brought home to me by the simple task of flipping over the page on my calendar, only to find that I was back to the beginning of last year... sigh. Now, we've always done quite well for new ones, particularly freebies, but this set me thinking of finally quitting on the paper kind. After all, the only time I reach for one is to check the next publication date on my schedule. Why not install a simple utility onto my system that I can open from my desktop tray area?

Let's see what's around - FreewareHome - Calendars

It didn't take long to find something that looked just right.

Past, Present & Future 1.1 - Overware Systems. As with a lot of good sites you will find a list of other freebies as well.

"A convenient 3 month calendar view. This program is a 32 bit utility that provides you with a 3 month view around the current date and is simple to use. (17K)"

Only 17k?... I like the sound of that and the screenshot shows me it will do very nicely... just click on the forward and back arrows to flip to and fro.

Having said any number of times I always like to see a screenshot being provided... practice what you preach! So, just to flex my graphic muscles a bit, here's the very same one. I'll try to remember to include more of them in future.

Being as small as it is the program doesn't minimise itself down into the tray area (beside the clock) but I already have something running that takes care of this. I just added it to my Launch List in NetLaunch and the single tray icon gives me access to it... and a lot of others as well.

I wrote about NetLaunch 18 months ago in "A Kinder, Gentler Start to the Day." Nothing has changed since then, it's still the program I depend on the most... and it's still Earl Grey that goes with it!

Another way to control the number of icons sitting in the tray is by using a separate utility. One of the best around is still TraySaver. I mentioned it in an article a while back.
