I Need HelpFriends, Romans, Countrymen... lend me your ears. See, I can still remember a few lines of Shakespeare from my old school days. I have a problem and I need your help. Put simply, I am fast running out of time to find, download, install, use and report not only what a program does but also how I got on with it. To me, this is the essence of reviewing software... people want to know what it does but perhaps more important how well. I'm not moving away from freeware... it's still my favourite but I'm having to rely to an increasing extent on what I am already using. I pretty much have one of everything and I've written articles on just about all of them. There's no shortage of raw material out there and I'll never stop looking for something new or better but sustaining a weekly column with programs I've actually tried out is getting to be extremely difficult. My regular reader(s) will know that my wife Dee is very heavily involved with a couple of popular freeware sites, FreewareHome.com and KidsFreeware.com and others are in the works. Helping out with these projects is taking up more of my time and as well as editing this column I am also a managing editor here at Suite101. This means time supervising an increasing number of other editors. In addition, I've been editing the S101 Y2K Site Map this year but thankfully this will be winding down early next year. When I started this Freeware column eighteen months ago it began with a bi-weekly schedule to give me a chance to get the hang of working to a deadline. Once I was settled in I speeded up to weekly as I always intended. I can revert to every two weeks if I choose or even stretch out to monthly but I don't really want to do this. The volume of new freeware is such that there's no shortage of new programs to be covered. This is where you my fellow freebie fanatics come in. Please, please, please help me by telling me about programs and most particularly your experiences with them. The great ones, the good ones, and yes even the lemons... so the rest of us can avoid them. Don't worry about spelling of grammar... you should see my drafts before they're tidied up! I'll give you your fifteen minutes of fame by way of full credit by name, alias or E-mail address whichever you prefer.
