How do I do That? One of my most treasured possessions is a Do It Yourself manual that has followed me around the world. There are a number of reasons for this. I have an insatiable curiosity as to how things work... it helps me decide whether I have the capacity to fix them myself. This is mostly a financial consideration but a large chunk of pride is at stake as well. I've always been very good at reading the instructions for anything new and keeping the manual in a safe place. However time marches on and my particular "Bible" is now somewhat antiquated... it doesn't say much about computers but it makes quite a lot of references to vacuum tubes! Time to get ready for the next millennium. Some idle surfing the other day, looking for article ideas led me through the door of Learn2.com and it was some time before I left. First impressions are very important and a number of things caught my attention. Not only are the cartoons hilarious but I immediately identified with the one of a computer user being blasted by sound... yep that's me with my lousy hearing. It introduces an article titled Learn to adjust your computer's sound. I also picked up very quickly on the new words they have coined : 2torials, Learnlets and Learnlines... very neat, I like that. The site is mainly broken down into sections, or channels as they call them, another in-fashion designation. Having selected the channel that interests you a number of levels of information are offered. Learnlets : Quick tip chunks of information that might give you what you're looking for but if not a link takes you on to :- 2torials : More detailed compositions using a very neat step by step approach plus key suggestions. There's provision for E-mailing a link to a friend which strikes me as being very useful when running a search for somebody else. If all else fails you can try their version of a discussion forum :- Learnlines : There's a good index to current discussion threads and you do have to become a member to post. This is no big deal... just the usual details plus a couple of demographic questions and of course membership is free. By no means does this cover everything available on this site... there's a lot more on offer. In fact you can advance yourself, educationally speaking, to quite a high level. None of this is unique but I found the site very comfortable for my wandering around and they cover a remarkably wide range of subjects. Thankfully a search function is included.
