'Tis time for loose ends and updates.

Over the last couple of weeks I've talked about doing your own thing by way of customisation and personalisation. I want to finish up this thread by where to start... Internet surfing that is.

When it comes to which page your browser opens up with you really have an enormous choice. Just about every sized fish in that great big pond out there wants the privilege of being there first. All sorts of attractions are offered and individual options are your's alone to choose.

What you can't control is what else "they" decide to greet you with... particularly advertising and promotions. It's made all the worse by the personal information you are required to provide as the price for your special version. Even if it's just your E-mail address that's good enough to increase your quota of junk mail.

I've just found a site that is taking a refreshing new approach to this. I can have what I want and just that... nothing else.

Welcome to MyStart.

Tired of registering for a custom page only to get your mail box filled with all of their "special offers"? MyStart is different. We don't ask you for your email address, we don't even ask for your name! We just give you a customized page with great content that you choose.

This operation is very much in the start up phase and the current selection is very basic. Take my word for it however they are very keen to get as much feedback and as many suggestions as they can. I can vouch for the fact that Dee has her Kidsfreeware hat on at the moment and collaborating on the creation of a kids version.

Go and check it out.

A while back I mentioned a program called MenuZap, and described what a good job it did in restoring order to my Windows Start Menu. Now it might just be me doing something wrong but I've found that it only seemed to work the one time, and I'm back to having a mess.

Back to the search engine.

Q-Sort 98 does the identical job every time I run it. As a bonus it will sort my IE Favourites back into alphabetical order whenever I want.

Guess which one I'm using now.

At various times I've gone into geography mode and commented on how big, round and global the Internet is becoming... and how spread out we all are. Friends and family alike. Here's a site that reminded me of this.
