I pride myself on having a good eye for bargains... particularly when it comes to computer stuff. Pride also extends to re- installing Windows only as a last resort.
"I'll show 'em" was one phrase I heard muttered in response to observations involving age and ability. "What about all the fun Dad can now have playing Solitaire" was another. Solved for me was the problem of what to do with my old system, plus a real bonus. What to get them for their 60th Anniversary. Flexing my shopping fingers into activity I started with the local ISP bulletin board, more out of curiosity, and promptly tripped over a real gem. Everything I was looking for, and then some, at a price that really made me smile. Suffice it to say it's sitting beside me now awaiting some personalisation and a dash more memory for dessert. Here's where I explain the title. The previous owner was a games freak and liked to watch a lot of TV as well. The former was evidenced by the hard drive being 80% full of this software and the latter by a TV card now redundant. Said card is now being traded along with the flat bed scanner that was also thrown in for a printer for said mother. By the time the card was out and the hard drive back to being respectably empty the Windows tune up came next. I'm planning on submitting the size of the Win. temp file as a new world record! My regular "house cleaning" tools aren't on board yet but a large amount of junk needed to go and the system Registry required a major overhaul. Quite by chance a kind reader had recommended a freebee utility that would do the job nicely. If the worst came to the worst I could re-install Windows because this was one registry that was not going to be backed up first. See, I do get back "on topic" eventually! A quick virtual hop over to Finland to download EasyCleaner: Author - Toni Helinius (age 14!). Very quickly indeed after installation my registry was relieved of over 300 redundant entries and the performance improvement was immediate. While in the program I also dumped some other junk files and ran a check for duplicates. An extremely good looking pie chart confirmed that I had recovered 3 gigs. of space... not bad going. There's nothing particularly unique in what this program does... there are others around, some of them quite expensive. This is as good as any of them... better than most, and the fastest of all I've tried. Go To Page: 1 2
