^^ On the publisher's mind ^^

It's been a very cool summer, and it's only just starting to warm up. Last weekend, I swam for the first time this year, but it wasn't in the ocean or a lake, it was in a very heated pool. Stewart's sister was celebrating a birthday, so we drove the motorcycle over for a dip in her wonderful new in-ground pool. She has all the toys - noodles, hoops suctioned to the pool bottom, balls, you name it. I like the noodles best, especially trying to hold them under my feet while I walk. I think I suffered a noodle injury, though - my wrist, unaccustomed to noodling, ached the next day.

The days are starting to heat up, so last night we took the bike to a local lake. It was still too cold for me, though. I cautiously waded in up to my ankles, walked back to shore and pulled on a sweater. Stewart was braver: he actually went in and stayed in for a good 15 minutes. Another few weeks of hot weather and I may even be able to go in up to my knees!

Stay mindful,
Jan

^^ Food for thought ^^

Does consumption of dairy products have anything at all to do with the risk of ovarian cancer? A study of 558 patients shows that consuming low-fat milk, calcium, or lactose may in fact reduce the risk.

People who live in homes built before 1974 are more likely to walk a mile or more at least 20 times a month compared to people who live in newer homes. Why the difference? Older neighbourhoods are a mix of residential and commercial properties, have sidewalks and are just more conducive to regular physical activity. David Berrigan, National Cancer Institute, conducted the study.
