The near-end of November saw the news that the French Constructor Prost, headed by legendary formula one driver and Four time champion, Alain Prost, had gone into recievership. The company had grossed debts worth $30 million. The company had investments made by Alain Prost himself and the Diniz Family. There were reports or rumours rather, that the Prince of Brunei was interested in buying a stake in the outfit. Also the interest of the Quebec Government about investments with Prost made the news. But after all the drama, the outfit appointed an administrator and informed the staff that it would be entering ito recievership. The current world recession had already weakened the flow of money in Formula One, followed by the September 11 attacks on the WTC that made things from bad to worse. A couple of other teams are also facing the heat of recession and are expected to cut down on their testing and R&D costs.
The US energy drink giant, Red-Bull pulled off its sponsorship from Sauber Petronas and is known to have entered into an agreement with Orange Arrows team. The shift has mainly been due to US interests of Red-Bull rather than the Swiss Outfit Sauber. Sauber had finished the year in style asit ended up 4th on the Constructors' Championship behind the three heavyweights, Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams BMW. Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher are in the news again. While their rivalry inside the team continues, Juan Pablo is very much confident and raring to go for the next season. He was quoted as saying that he expects them to definitely pose a strong threat to Mclaren's second position on the Constructors' List. They still dont think that they can pull off a Championship title, but deifnitely give Mclaren and Ferrari a run for their money. Juan Pablo also commented on the drivers' championship saying that he considers Michael Schumacher the best driver on the current F1 grid but by no means considers him unbeatable. Well, this on track rivalry will sure heatup proceding from next March. Meanwhile Ralf Schumacher is complaining about teamorders in the Williams outfit and considers thathe isnt getting the status he deserves being the more experienced driver. Mika Hakkinen has reported that David Coulthard has asked him totest for Mclaren next year. Although he says that he hasnt taken any decision about it and is very hapy to be starting his year long sabbatical from the sport, other reports saying that Ron Dennis, Mclaren team Principal has offered Hakkinen a 2.3 million pound deal for testing the new Michelin tyres.
