With the last race of the 2001 season finishing in October, November was expected to be an idle month with all teams and drivers relaxing and preparing for next year. But November has already seen a lot of news inflow and many happenings.

Mclaren-Mercedes announced that they would be contracting Michelin for their tyre supply next year. The Woking based team confirmed rumours about the tyre shift quoting that the French tyre manufacturer had shown tremendous performance in it debut year and that Michelin could give Mclaren the much needed advantage over arch rivals Ferrari. Mclaren had earlier announced that Kimi Raikkonen would be replacing fellow countrymate and two time world champion Mika Hakkinen in 2002 as the later had said that he would be taking a break from Formula One for an year. This has led to rumours that Hakkinen is being recalled by team Principal Ron Dennis for testing the new tyres for the development of the setup in 2002. But Hakkinen in an exclusive interview said that he had not thought about anything yet. It is being anticipated that Hakkinen's experience would be essential in getting the perfect setup which the team lacked a great deal in 2001.

Kimi Raikkonen has said that he can handle all the pressure of Formula One and believes that he will emerge successful. Mika Hakkinen has reiterated in many of his interviews that he was delighted to see Kimi taking his seat and that his decision of a sabbatical became much easy after knowing that. Hakkinen was quoted as saying "If you want to win, get the Finn". Mika believes that Kimi would take a little time to get adjusted with the new team, but eventually will get into the groove. He believes that Kimi has the talent to push Coulthard but that would come after a lot of hard work.

With Mclaren shifting to Michelin for their tyre supply next year, the tyre battle has warmed up in Formula One. Both Mclaren and Ferrari, the top two teams of Formula One were using Goodyear tyres till the mid-nineties and later shifted to Bridgestone towards the end of the century. With Goodyear expected to make a comeback in 2003, it would be an interesting three-way battle in the tyre area. In 2001, Michelin proved to perform better in high speed circuits while Bridestone were brilliant in all others. The emergence of this different tyre performance has broughtin an altogether new aspect to the sport as tyres are now a major factor in the arce unlike last year where all the teams recieved the same tyres.
