The Italian Grand Prix

The Mclarens had a disaster of a race as both retired half way, Coulthard with a blown engine and Hakkinen with a clutch failure. When the first set of pit stops started, misfortune struck for Rubens Barrichello, as the fuel hose got jammed into his Ferrari and cost him the lead of the race. The Williams pit stops were fine and Montoya again gained the lead.

The race order remained pretty much the same thereafter, with Montoya clinching his first Formula One victory, Rubens Barrichello on second place, and Ralf on third. Thus Montoya proved his mettle and goes strongly into the next year, only his second year at Formula One, with a bright prospect of the championship. Another happy man was Kimi Raikkonen, who was announced in Mclaren's 2002 lineup. The rookie is said to be the find of the season along with Montoya and is already being considered as the future champion.
