MY WORST TRIAL EXPERIENCE EVER

my findings, report anything I said to their attorney, or simply slug me. So I sat, trying to concentrate on a book while they discussed how their little darlings were getting a raw deal, and remember so and so’s wedding, and just last month at a graduation party…. The worst part of it was that I could identify with them. My father had just been ill, and I felt I knew what they were going through. It was a family crisis--your entire life goes on hold and every day you get up, dress neatly, go to the hospital or courthouse or whatever and try to keep it together. The strain of both sympathizing and avoiding was too much for me. By the time I had to testify I was a complete basket case.

THEN, the defense attorney actually fit the stereotype—confrontational, sarcastic, abrasive, treating the testimony—AND it was hair testimony, always difficult to explain—with utter contempt.

Somehow I got through it, but my knees shook for hours. And the little darlings went free.
