Well I would agree that this framework for categorizing child sexual abusers is not complete. And for that matter it is even somewhat dated it a valid framework, though it is dependent on the context used. Being a therapist who works with sex offenders I can see how it would not be sufficient for your means. However, for the level of investigative psychology categorization I think that it is sufficient. I did specify the relative increased frequency within family's, "the most frequent molesters are fathers, step-fathers, uncles, grandfathers, cousins, and brothers."
>Also, there is a difference between a pedophile and someone >who has sexually abused a child. A pedophile is typically >classified as a person whose primary attraction is to >children. I will agree that perhaps I should of phrased the appropriate section of this better. I do agree with your sub-categories of pedophile vs. non pedophile. However, I will argue that the second group you mentioned does fit in the child hater or sociopath category I presented. Where it is more a power motivation rather then a sexual one. I believe that this 'power' motivation is what is stimulated in the 'stressful regression' you mention.
>As far as the second type goes, in which you classify as child >haters, an issue of gaining power over a victim does not make >the person necessarily a sociopath (Psychopath is the >currently used term). If you are making reference to a >sadistic type of offender, than that is different and should >be classified as such. Also, this >should be noted that an offender who commits this type of act >would be treated as a rapist, as the dynamics are that of >rape. This type is also extremely rare.
