The Future of Criminal ProfilingOne interesting idea with criminal profiling is the creation of a computer program that can replicate the process. This would allow massive validity studies and would allow the application of a profiling technique to virtually all murder/rape investigations. The problem in the past has been that the computer thought process is too linear and cannot handle the multiple dimensions required for profiling. However, the advancement of the new 'thinking' fuzzy logic computer systems may make this project a reality. While the style of profiling that should be used with this style, and the exact definition of the profiling process must be first defined, this idea may soon become a reality and quickly redefine the face of profiling. Profiling appears to be here to stay. In what form that will be is yet uncertain. Scientifically it seems clear which form should be followed, the investigative psychology approach. But pure science does not always win out in what may quite likely turn into a popularity contest in the United States.
