Forensic Psychology Graduate Education: Notes and IdeasFinally I will briefly mention the difference between the Clinical PhD and PsyD Forensic Psychology programs. A Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Clinical Psychology is a degree in which the individual is trained as both a scientist and a practionioner. A great deal of there schooling is based in real world placements, however they do a great deal of research as well (similarily to those in the experimental programs). The Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) is a farely knew program that is for the most part entirely pratctioner based. In these programs you will spend very little time doing research and will primarly work in the real world. While at this moment there is a slight discrimination against PsyD's in the field this seems to be shifting and the major organizations recognize their status as valid clinicians.
