with Eric Dickerson, I've coached some guys who are as physically talented as he is. But I've never been around someone who is as good a runner - vision, break tackles, power, moves, catch the ball like he did today. And he did it with an arm tied behind his back."

Smith extended his right arm and stiff-armed Lawrence Taylor on his final carry. In the locker room afterward, the team's medical staff had to assist Smith when he put on his sweat jacket.

"What happens if Emmitt goes out in the second quarter? Who knows?" Turner said. "If Emmitt goes out of the game, it changes a lot of things, possibly the outcome."

That article pretty much says it all about Emmitt's desire to win, and his dedication to the Dallas Cowboys.

Emmitt Smith's achievements weren't limited to the playing field. Emmitt's contributions to the community were equal to those he made on the field. Emmitt was a true role model, a guy that set an example and lived by it. Millions of kids across the country look up to him as an example that dreams can come true.

Emmitt founded an organization called theOpen Doors Foundation to help underprivileged children overcome and be successful. In an amazing act of selflessness he has donated much of his personal memorabilia collect and has auctioned much of it off to support the foundation. Some of the items donated and auctioned include his first NFL touchdown ball, his 150 TD ball, and his record breaking uniform and ball. This is just another example that Emmitt played for the game itself rather than the glory.

Emmitt Smith was and still is one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL. Not only will he be honored in the Hall of Fame and the Cowboys Ring of Honor he will forever be remembered as a true hero and roll model.

One day my grand children will hear his name during a game and ask "who was Emmitt Smith?" and I'll smile and say "One of the greatest men to ever strap on a helmet."
