We've all heard the hype of Terrell Owens. Will he play or not seams to be the big story for the Eagles heading in to the Super Bowl. I have to say if I played for the Eagles I'd be insulted. Even the local papers here in Northeast Pennsylvania are basing the Eagles chances on the health and play of Terrell Owens. Isn't it amazing what a loud mouth media hound can do the sports media? All season it's been Terrell did this and Terrell did that, in all the hype and controversy everyone seems to have forgotten about the rest of the team. Owens may be good, maybe even great, but there are still ten other players on the field with him. And let's face it he wouldn't be anything without Donovan McNabb's arm or the blocking of the offensive line. Can anyone name the five offensive linemen who make it all possible? I wonder if Owens can. Their names are:
Owens is a egotist. When Terrell is playing good it's all him, but when he is playing badly it's everyone but him. Look back to his final seasons with the 49ers. He spouted off about how he wasn't getting the ball and how Jeff Garcia was a lousy quarterback because he wouldn't pass to Owens in double coverage. Because Owens wasn't getting his way, he felt the team was lousy. Rather than be a leader and help the team overcome adversity he took the first plane out. He claimed many times that the 49ers "Have no heart" How could they when they were being ripped at every turn by Owens. Terrell was the catalyst that led San Francisco to dismantle and rebuild. The ill will he fostered destroyed the team. "Owens is a load. His antics three years ago in the Dallas game got him suspended for a game, and he and coach Steve Mariucci had an uneasy relationship after that. Now, the 49ers have a new coach, Dennis Erickson, who is trying to downplay Owens' constant outbursts and complaints about not seeing the ball, but that can be wearing on a coach and the team." -- Glenn Dickey San Francisco Chronicle September 27, 2003
He also has a history of attacking his coaches when the ball come his way often enough. The feud between Owens and Mariucci was well publicized and made headlines across the country. Go To Page: 1 2
