The Royal Month

The Queen is in residence at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. This is the peak month for the Golden Jubilee celebrations following the spectacular pageantry and colour of the events of 1 - 4 June. After hosting the Prom at the Palace and Party at the Palace and celebrating with the peoplein London, The Queen accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh visits the Principality of Wales between 11 and 13 June before returning to London for the annual Trooping the Colour Parade. On 17 June The Queen holds her annual service at St. George's Chapel Windsor for Her Knights of the Garter.

Sporting and social highlight of the summer will be this year's Royal Ascot which takes place between 18 - 22 June. The Queen holds a house party at Windsor Castle during the week for friends and family and joins the racing each day, arriving in horse-drawn open carriage. The Royal month closes with The Queen reviewing Her Armed Forces at a Combined Services Parade at Portsmouth on 25 June. Full details of the month's Royal engagements can be seen on my webpage The Queen's Jubilee Tour: Official Timetable and can be followed daily through the Court Circular

Royal birthdays include HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who will be 81 this year; HRH Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales (born June 21 1982); Birgitte Eva, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester (born June 20 1946); George Philip Nicholas Windsor, Earl of St Andrews (born June 26 1962). The Duke of Edinburgh's birthday is marked by a Royal Salute of guns in Hyde Park and at the Tower of London.

Trooping the Colour

DATE: 15 June, 2002.
VENUE: Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, London SW1.
WHAT IT IS: The Trooping the Colour ceremony by the Massed Bands and Troops of the Household Division is the most spectacularly colourful annual event of military pageantry in Royal London. At 10.40am, the Queen, in the uniform of a regiment of her Household Foot Guards, processes down The Mall from Buckingham Palace escorted by her Household Cavalry (the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals). She reaches Horse Guards Parade at 11am. There, with her consort in attendance, she inspects her Household Regiments, the Grenadiers, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards, and takes the salute. Her Majesty then processes back up The Mall to Buckingham Palace where she watches a Royal Air Force fly-past from the
