Princess Margaret: Funeral and CondolencesPrime Minister's Tribute British Prime Minister Tony Blair who was touring Africa when Princess Margaret died, praised her long years of service in an interview with the TV channel Sky News. "The thing people understand about the Royal Family is the sense of service that they have. Princess Margaret had it; before she was ill she did an enormous amount of public service, of charity work". In his remarks the PM also paid tribute to the Royal Family's commitment to public service, a constitutional and community role that dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria and Her Prince Consort. "They work, actually, very hard for us, the Royal Family, and the single common theme that I think runs throughout their lives is this idea that they owe a duty of service to the people they lead. I know from conversations I had with the Princess she felt that deeply too." Books of Condolence " It is with great sadness that my family and I have learnt of the death of Her Royal Highness The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. Her birth at Glamis Castle in August 1930 has always been a source of great pride to Glamis, and her many visits here for family occasions brought us all great joy. The Nation will mourn her loss as a leading member of the Royal Family over many years. Glamis shares in that grief and prayers and thanksgiving for her life will be said here in the Chapel. She will be greatly missed by all my family."
