The '99 Solar Eclipse - A Cornish Experience

u will be hard put to obtain a room there during the month of August. I shall revisit it one day with my Lady, when we shall use the Three Crowns Hotel as our touring base to explore the scenic beauties of Dartmoor at leisure. We drove through Devon on our way to Cornwall last summer without pausing, prefering to leave it to a time when we could do proper justice to all that the county has to offer.

There is plenty of self-catering accommodation in the Dartmoor area. For details try the lively, independantly run Chagford Information Centre.

If you prefer a more metropolitan environment in Devon in which to enjoy the eclipse, Plymouth has it all. This lively and attractive city, from which the Mayflower sailed, is organising a week-long Street Festival with massive firework display on Eclipse Night that should please everybody.

Wherever you choose to watch the solar eclipse, be it in Scilly, North Cornwall, or Devon, be sure to wear special eye glasses that filter out the harmful rays of the sun. Whatever you do, do not look directly at the sun without proper eye protection.

Joyful Travels!
