July 8 Update
Events have overtaken my intended second article on July events in London.I shall reschedule my article for August events. The Travelseuth

July is a great time for open air festivals in England! Ethnic, Floral, Gay Pride, Music and the Arts Festivals are taking place throughout the length and breadth of the land, together with weekend village summer fetes throughout the month. Here in the first of two articles, are just some of the goodies on offer, together with their websites for further information and tickets.

Winchester Hat Fair
Date:June 29 - July 3, 2005.
Venue: Winchester, Hampshire.
15 venues throughout this historic Royal City
Description: England's longest-running festival of Street Theatre attracts around 40,000 people annually and is an explosion of performance, taking its name from the traditional passing round of a cap for buskers. The city centre is closed to cars for the weekend as troupes, groups, oddballs and circus performers from all over Europe act up for the crowds. The spectacular centrepiece is repeated several times. Sunday is a relaxing family day with picnicking and performance in a nearby park.

London Pride

Date: July 2, 2005. London .
Venue: West End, Trafalgar Square.
Description: The finale to a fourteen day extravaganza of Theatre, Music, Sports, Cabaret and Visual Arts celebrating London's Rainbow Community, supported by the Mayor of London. The day begins at 12 noon with Pride Parade, a carnival parade gathering in Hyde Park and progressing to Victoria Embankment. At 3 pm the Trafalgar Square Rally will pack the square to capacity for a number of high profile speakers and entertainment. Nearby Leicester Square provides the venue for Pride Cabaret in association with Drag Idol where major international acts will perform to happy hedonists.

Live8
Date: July 2, 2005.
Venue: Eden Project, Cornwall.
Description: The original world leader in global music events, World of Music, Arts and Dance Foundation was established in 1983 to promote understanding among world cultures. It regularly organises events in all corners of the planet and this year Eden Project, St. Austell, Cornwall plays host to Live8's "Africa Calling", with fourteen artists and groups from Africa providing the music.

Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod
Date:July 5-10, 2005.
Venue: Llangollen, Wales.
Description: Attracting performers from over 50 countries, and capacity international audiences of up to 100,000, this prestigious annual event is an international singing competition by day and performance arena by night. Watch choral recitals by massed male, female, mixed and children's choirs and barbershop ensembles, Celtic Music and traditional Folk dance shows during the day. Professional artistes provide a showcase of musical talent by night; Opera, Classical, Flamenco and Celtic. A non-camping event, but plenty of local facilities.
