Easter Bargains - Spring Bonuses

Easter Weekend Bonus
The geese are laying, daffodils are dancing in the wind, and I heard a blackbird singing. It must be spring!

It's time to look for good Easter bargains in London, and the Thistle Hotel Group has sent me a list of their Easter weekend specials, which make interesting reading.

I particularly like their offer of Easter weekend at the Royal Horseguards, overlooking the Thames Embankment at Westminster, for £75 per person. A two-night stay includes afternoon tea on arrival, a three-course dinner on the second evening, accommodations, and an English breakfast.

The hotel itself is one of London's most elegant heritage buildings and is situated just a walk away from Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and London Eye; and a short taxi ride away from Westminster Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, West End shops and Theatreland.

Celebrate Easter in the traditional way at Westminster Abbey or Westminster Cathedral and enjoy a bird's eye view of London from London Eye, a spectacular panoramic view of this ancient city that should not be missed.

London Culinary Bonus
Conde Nast's Gourmet Magazine has finally acknowledged what we Londoners have known for some time: London is the culinary capital of Europe.

This is fine, of course, if you have a fat wallet to match your gourmet tastes. West End restaurants are hideously expensive if your credit card is paid in dollars. However, London Pub Grub is now both imaginative, high quality, varied and reasonably priced. When in London, do as Londoners do: Enjoy a good meal with a glass of wine or pint of Fullers Ale from the wood at a traditional pub. Check out my link to a series of delightful waterside pubs in London.

Channel Ferry Price War Bonus
While the downward spiral of the U.S. dollar against the £Sterling and Euro may cause potential visitors from USA to wince when they contemplate a vacation in UK or the European Continent, there are some items of good news to dispel the gloom.

American friends visiting England prefer to stretch their vacation money to cover more than just a week in London and a look at one of Britain's cultural festivals. They may add a brief visit to Dublin, Paris, Brussels or Rome.

The proliferation of European destinations from British airports by well established low-cost, no-frills British airlines such as bmi, Ryanair and easyJet, (flying from London/Gatwick, Stansted and Luton and regional airports), and newer continental airlines like Europair, (London/Stansted to central European destinations such as beautiful Bratislava) have now made it possible for UK visitors to extend their vacations to take in every major city in western and central Europe.
